Where to study

To become a logistician you can take a 4-year bachelor's degree in logistics. These programmes belong to group B095 Transport Services, and the UNT profile pair is maths and geography. Logistics is taught, for example, at L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University and Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (Logistics by Industry) and at Almaty Management University, while Satbayev University runs a Digital Logistics programme.

Students learn supply chain management, warehousing, transport, customs rules and economics. You can start your career as a logistics assistant, dispatcher or warehouse manager. At school, word problems on speed and percentages, working with maps and school business projects are good preparation.

Outlook

In Kazakhstan, logisticians work at transport and freight forwarding companies, the railway, airports and seaports, warehouses, retail chains, online stores and factories. Transit cargo between China and Europe crosses the country and online shops need fast delivery, so specialists who can work with data and speak languages are especially valued.

Frequently asked questions

Which UNT subjects do I need to become a logistician?

Logistics programmes belong to group B095 Transport Services, and their profile pair is maths and geography. You also take the compulsory subjects, including the history of Kazakhstan.

What is the difference between a logistician and a freight forwarder?

A freight forwarder arranges the transport of a specific shipment: finds a vehicle, prepares documents and follows the delivery. A logistician looks at the bigger picture, planning the whole chain from supplier to customer, counting costs and finding ways to make delivery faster and cheaper.

Does a logistician need languages?

Yes, very much. Logisticians often work with partners in China, Russia and Europe, so English or Chinese helps with negotiations and documents. Kazakh and Russian are needed for work inside the country.
